Haryana Atomic Power Project by Nuclear Power Corporation of India.

The project involves setting up of a nuclear power plant (4×700 MWe, PHWRs) in District Fatehabad, Haryana. The project will be implemented
in two stages of 2×700 MWe each with a gap of about 4 years. A residential township is also proposed to be constructed as part of this project.

NPCIL plans to acquire 650 hectares of land for the project and 75 hectares for the township. The land for the plant site is reported to be low lying and water logged during monsoon. The water requirement for the plant will be met through Fatehabad Branch of Bhakra Canal.

Status : On June 15, Ministry of Environment of Forests has said that the pre-feasibility report was found to be lacking the requisite details and feasibility of meeting the water requirement during lean season flow and during canal closure was also not given in the PFR. Further, MoEF has directed NPCIL to revise the project documents and submit the same afresh for further consideration of the Committee in order to be considered for clearance.
