KS Energy Ventures has reported progress on its proposed 540 MW coal fired thermal power plant at in Warora Growth Centre in Chadrapur district of Maharashtra.

Current Status :

The company had earlier announced the commissioning and synchronization of first unit. The company has announced completion of the commissioning process for the synchronization of the second unit (135 MW) of the 540 MW with the Grid. The entire power from first unit is being made available to the local utility under a short term Power Purchase Agreement. The power generated from the second unit would also be made available to the local utility under the PPA. Unit 3 is expected to achieve boiler light up, steam blowing and synchronization with the Grid during the next 10-12 weeks. Thereafter, works with respect to Unit 4 completion are expected to be taken up and it is anticipated that, prior to end March 2011, power generation from this unit would also begin.

Project Background :

Location: The power plant is situated in Warora Growth Centre, District Chandrapur, Maharashtra, India. Off Taker- Wardha Power Company Ltd, (WPCL) , Warora has entered into a power delivery agreement with various bulk consumers in the state of Maharashtra.

Fuel Supply: WPCL, Warora utilizes coal in pulverized form as its primary fuel and will contain four power generating units of 135 MW capacity each, which will use regenerative, single reheat rankine cycles for power generation. with the Coal supplies are tied up from western Coal fields.

EPC contract: WPCL, Warora has selected Sichuan Electric Design Company, a People Republic of China company, as the contractor to undertake design, supply, engineering and construction services.

Transmission: WPCL, Warora has obtained approval from the Maharashtra State Electricity Development Company Limited to evacuate the 540 MW of power.
