APPDCL – 5×800 MW Super Critical Coal Based TPP

The proposal is for setting up of 5×800 MW Super Critical Coal Based TPP at village Kanuparti, in Naguluppalapadu Mandal, in Prakasam District, in Andhra.Pradesh by Andhra Pradesh Power Development Corp. The site has been verified through State Coastal Zone Management Authority (Department of Environment and Forests, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh) Revenue survey Nos. 183,187,191,192,193,235,236 and 237 of Kanuparti village are covered in Coastal Regulation Zone. The total extent of this area is 49.12 acres. The said area is falling in 200-500 m zone of Gundlakamma River. The CRZ can be reduced to 150 m under slab system to the extent of the plant area after considering the width of Gundlakamma River. Necessary approval will be taken under CRZ notification dated 19-02-1991 after NIO studies. Cooling water pipelines will come under CRZ. NIO will take up CRZ studies. Land requirement will now be 1785 acres, out of which plant area will be 1515 acres; colony 150 acres and others 120 acres. Out of 1785 acres, 1729.19 acres is single crop agricultural land and 55.80 acres is revenue land. About 400 land oustees will be involved. The co-ordinates of the plant will be at Latitude 15034-48- to 15036-5- N to Longitude 80010-25- to 80012-25- E. Domestic and Imported coal in the ratio 60:40 will be used. Domestic coal requirement will be 13.033 MTPA. No jetty will be proposed and coal will be obtained through Vaderevu Port. There are no national parks, wildlife sanctuary, tiger/elephant/biosphere reserves, heritage sites etc. within 10 km of the boundary of the proposed site.

The environmental and forests ministry informed the project promoter that after preparing the draft EIA the same shall be submitted to the SPCB for conducting the public hearing as per procedure of EIA notification 2006. The issues which emerge during public hearing shall be further incorporated in the Draft EIA/EMP report. The final EIA/EMP report along with public hearing report and the requisite documents (including written objections, if any) shall be submitted to the Ministry for appraisal by the Expert Appraisal Committee for consideration of awarding environmental clearance.
