The proposal is for setting up of 3×600 MW Coal Based TPP at village Baija, in Kishornagar Tehsil, in Angul Distt., in Orissa. Land requirement for the present proposal will be 1300 acres. Diversion of Gramin Jungle measuring about 35.52 ha (89 acres) will be involved. The co-ordinates of the site are at Latitude 20057-53.3- to 20059-21.79- and Longitude 84026-34.5- to 84027-21.79-. Coal requirement will be 9.0 MTPA at 85% PLF. The site is located at about 40 km away from Chandipada Block in Angul Distt., which has been identified as critically polluted area. Domestic coal from Naini Coal Block in Orissa will be obtained as source of fuel. A stack of 275 m will be installed. Water requirement will be 64 CUSEC. Source of water will be from Mahanadi River. There are no wildlife sanctuary, national park, biosphere / tiger reserve, heritage sites etc. with 10 km distance of the proposed site.

The environmental and forests ministry informed the project promoter that after preparing the draft EIA the same shall be submitted to the SPCB for conducting the public hearing as per procedure of EIA notification 2006. The issues which emerge during public hearing shall be further incorporated in the Draft EIA/EMP report. The final EIA/EMP report along with public hearing report and the requisite documents (including written objections, if any) shall be submitted to the Ministry for appraisal by the Expert Appraisal Committee for consideration of awarding environmental clearance.
