Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam – 2×660 MW Coal Based Thermal Power Plant
The proposal is for expansion of existing 6×250 MW by addition of 2×660 MW Super Critical Coal Based at Suratgarh Thermal Power Project at village Thukrana, in Suratgarh Taluk, in Sri Ganganagar Distt., in Rajasthan. Land requirement will be 980 acres, which comprises of 845 acres of single crop agricultural land; 55 acres of wasteland and others. There will be no displacement of population. Coal requirement will be 6.50 MTPA. Coal linkage is yet to be obtained. Application for Kante (Extension) Coal Block has been submitted to Ministry of Coal. A bi-flue stack of 275 m will be installed. Water requirement of about 45 Cusec will be obtained from Indira Gandhi Nahar Priyojana, which will be met from the existing allocation. Source of water will be at 2-3 km from the site. Natural draft cooling system will be adopted. Existing Ash Pond shall be utilized for fly ash disposal. There are no national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, heritage sites, tiger/biosphere reserves etc. within 10 km of the site. Public hearing was conducted on 29.01.2010. Cost of the project will be Rs 7920.0 Crores.
In Spetember 2010, the project was submitted before ministry of environment and forests for clearance and the project was deferred by for later consideration.
