Coal Min proposes 25% production enhancement for 11 OC projects
The Ministry of Coal has recommended enhancing coal production to the tune of 25 per cent of eleven open cast (OC) projects that are being operated by subsidiaries of Coal India Limited.
The coal ministry feels these projects might be able to produce an additional 2.6 million tonnes (MT) of coal during FY 2011-12 if the concerned coal companies are permitted to go ahead with enhancing production by 25%, over and above the the existing capacities for which environment clearances (EC) have been acquired.
At present, the net EC capacity of these projects stands at 53 MT. However, if the permission to produce extra 25% is granted, the maximum achievable production capacity during the ongoing year will rise to 55.6 MT.
