NTPC project: Status update
Crucial days are ahead for NTPC’s 1,980 MW Sipat super thermal power plant (STPP) as South Korean engineering major Doosan and Power Machines Company of Russia, are finally likely to achieve the much anticipated milestones– TG erection on barring gear and the steam blowing process.
So far, the power project has been hit with repeated delays on account of pending supply of TG valves and other equipment, along with the TG contractor’s lax attitude in completing the erection process as per the stipulated timeline. As a result of this, the schedule for these two critical milestones had to be revised by close to 7 months.
If the companies put in their best efforts to achieve the targets by the end of the ongoing month, it will be a huge relief for the state-owned major, which has been struggling to resolve all contractual disputes in an attempt to commission the said project by the end of March 2012.
It is to be note that a cumulative sum of Rs 7,485 crore has already been expended on the project till October 2011 since inception. The total expenditure incurred during this fiscal, up to October this year, stands at Rs 374 crore against the total annual plan outlay of Rs 941 crore.
