Power Grid submits proposals before IMG

Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd (PGCIL) has submitted its project proposals for examination by the Inter Ministerial Group (IMG).

Following are the coal ministry’s comments on these proposals:

Implementation of the 1,200 KV transmission line to conserve Right of way, R&D Projects (Pilot Project): The proposed technology is envisaged to reduce losses in transmission, something that will in turn reduce emissions. MoC has given its support to the proposal subject to the extension of financial support as per IMG guidelines.

Implementation of smart grid technology: The coal ministry, in its observations on the project, has said that the project appears to be just a management system proposed to be developed to understand the system behavior. As such, innovation from development of technology does not appear to exist in the proposal. MoC has, therefore, decided not to support the proposal.

Demo project for application of AC super conducting power transmission line (Gurgaon, Haryana): The coal ministry has supported the proposal since it aims to reduce losses in transmission, and by consequence emissions as well. Approval, however, shall be subject to the extension of financial support as per IMG guidelines.
