Proposals at Bander coal block

The Bander coal block has been proposed to be mined through both opencast and underground mining methods.

The coal block is allotted to Bander Coal Company Ltd. and located in the command area of Coal India subsidiary Western Coalfields Ltd.

Out of the total of 17.46 sq. kms of the Bander coal block, reserves have been estimated for the 12.62 sq. kms coal bearing area which has been divided in four sectors (A to D) based on the surface or geological features.

Pertinently, of the 13 proven coal seams in the block, four seams – IV, VI, VIII and XII – are unworkable.

Simultaneous mining by underground methodology at 0.60 mtpa in the lower seams of sector A (all the available seams in this sector are thin), B and C by providing a sufficient gap between the working front in opencast mine with respect to the underground mine (UG mine-I).
